LITH cancels pond hockey tournament

LAKE IN THE HILLS – The village has canceled its pond hockey tournament for this year, it said in a news release.

After record high temperatures earlier this week, ice conditions won't allow the Parks and Recreation Department to host the 2013 Pond Hockey Tournament on Saturday.

"Despite having all the necessary pieces in place to host this exciting, outdoor tournament, mother nature had other plans," Recreation Supervisor Trevor Bosack said in a news release.

The tournament was originally scheduled for Jan. 19, but the ice was not thick enough then either. This is the second year in a row the village canceled its hockey tournament.

There are no plans to reschedule it for another date.

Bosack said there were 16 teams signed up for the tournament on Woods Creek Lake.
