Morrissey honored by Special Forces

A long-time Woodstock resident recently received The Silver Order of Saint Philip Neri Award, given to those who demonstrate extraordinary performance and contributions to the U.S. Army Special Forces.

Tom Morrissey, who survived eight close-range gunshots from an AK-47 during his third tour of duty in Afghanistan, was given the award during a banquet hosted by a local chapter of the Special Forces Association.

The chapter also presented him with a donation to Transitional Living Services for Veterans, an agency in McHenry County that assists homeless veterans. Morrissey is a board member at TLSV.

Morrissey, vice president of sales for architectural products manufacturer Hunter Douglas, works with young soldiers and Marines facing physical and emotional pain tied to injuries during combat.

Senior Reporter Kevin Craver caught up with Morrissey in 2011 to talk about Morrissey's injuries and recovery, and to hear more about how he gives back. To purchase the Q&A from the Northwest Herald archives, click here.
