Overnight snow slows morning traffic

Snow-covered roadways have slowed the morning commute after snow blanketed most of the Chicago area overnight.

A winter weather advisory remains in effect through noon today, according to the National Weather Service. Some light snow is still possible across the area into the early afternoon.

Plows from McHenry County hit the roadways at 2 a.m. in an attempt to get ahead of the impending snowfall, said Ed Markison, assistance maintenance superintendent for the county's Division of Transportation.
