McHenry uninterested in subdivision’s center
McHENRY – The City Council took a brief tour of a three-acre property in the Whispering Oaks subdivision at the start of its meeting Monday night and decided it has no interest in buying it.
“We’re not going to do anything with this,” City Administrator Derik Morefield said.
The Whispering Oaks community center has been for sale for more than a year and the homeowners association
approached the city as a possible buyer for municipal programs.
The council reconvened at the municipal building and made its decision after a closed-door discussion.
Officials did not reveal the asking price for the property.
The center at 4513 Front Royal Drive is a two-story building on “a beautiful three-acre wooded lot in the middle of a residential community,” said Bob Bergland, president of Northwest Property and Financial Management Corp., the property manager for the association.
Ultimately, any decision to sell or transfer the property rests with a vote of the subdivision’s 343 homeowners, Bergland said.
