Events canceled due to winter weather

The weather is starting to affect scheduled events.

• All District 47 after-school and evening activities have been canceled tonight. This includes all school or parent-related events. This also includes all three District 155 high school orientations that were planned for tonight for the district's 8th graders.

• The Friendship House in Crystal Lake has canceled it's Family Fun night. The event is now moved to March 7.

• All preps sports in McHenry County are canceled tonight.

• All District 155 after-school activities are canceled tonight.

• All District 158 after-school activities are canceled tonight.

• The District 158 Committee of the Whole set for 6 p.m., today, has been canceled. A rescheduled meeting date has not been announced.

• District 300 after-school activites at Algonquin Middle, Carpentersville Middle, Dundee Middle, Golfview Elementary, Hampshire Middle, Lakewood School, Liberty Elementary, Dundee-Crown High School, Hampshire High School, and Jacobs High School have been canceled tonight.

• All District 200 after-school activities and practices as well as evening events, and all outside user group activities for today have been canceled. Kindergarten registration scheduled at 6 p.m. tonight has been rescheduled for  6 p.m. Feb. 12. Kids Club will be open this afternoon until 6 p.m.

• Montini Catholic School in McHenry has canceled all after-school activities today, including tournaments.

• The District 47 Curriculum Committee set for today has been rescheduled for 4:30 to 6 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 14.

• First Institute in Crystal Lake is closed today.

• St. Mary School in Woodstock has canceled all afternoon and evening activites today.

• Marian Central Catholic High School has canceled tonight's bingo event.

• The Village of Huntley has canceled the Committee of the Whole and joint Committee of the Whole/Plan Commission meetings tonight.

• Crystal Lake's refuse contractor has suspended operations for the day. All refuse has been collected, but about 50 percent of recycling remains. Recycling pick-up will be completed first thing in the morning on Friday.

• The McHenry County Sheriff's Office is urging motorists to avoid Route 31 between Crystal Lake and McHenry until further notice due to an unpassable hill.

• Lake in the Hills has canceled the Parks and Recreation Board meeting scheduled for tonight. The meeting has been rescheduled for 6:30 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 14.

• Motorists on the Northwest Herald Facebook page are reporting poor driving conditions across the county, including: Route 14 through Crystal Lake and Woodstock; Calhoun Street, specifically up the hill toward the square; Route 31 between Crystal Lake and McHenry; and many side streets throughout McHenry County.

• The Woodstock Public Library Board of Trustees meeting for tonight is canceled and will be rescheduled.

• The McHenry Police Department has issued an advisory for "2nd division vehicles," which include semi-trucks. Those vehicles are to avoid southbound Route 31 in McHenry due to the hazardous road conditions.

• The Johnsburg Area Business Association's meeting has been canceled.
