Ex-wife guilty in hammer attack on ex-husband

WAUKEGAN, Ill. — A Mundelein woman could get up to 60 years in prison after being convicted of trying to beat her ex-husband and his new wife to death with a two-pound sledgehammer.

A Lake County jury found 56-year-old Sandra Rogers guilty Wednesday after only three hours of deliberations. She was convicted of multiple charges that included attempted murder and home invasion.

During closing arguments, prosecutor Danielle Pascucci said the case resembled a made-for-TV movie about "an angry, bitter, frustrated ex-wife." Pascucci says Rogers' attack on the sleeping victims left them "bleeding, bashed and bludgeoned." Both survived.
