Not welcome

To the Editor:

I am a lifelong McHenry resident, a lifelong St. Mary’s parishioner, and a Montini mom. I would like to know why Thornton’s would even consider the corner of Route 31 and Pearl Street a viable location for a gas station. In addition to the added traffic a gas station would generate, the neighbors have made it very clear with their “no gas station” signs that Thornton’s is not welcome in their neighborhood.

I have yet to speak with one McHenry resident who thinks this is a good idea. The City Council needs to see past the dollar signs they think a Thornton’s could generate and think about the safety of our schoolchildren and the integrity of our historic downtown McHenry.
