Suspect with weapon arrested at Illinois State
NORMAL, Ill. (AP) — Illinois State University says police have a suspect in custody after reports of a man with a weapon on campus sparked emergency alerts.
The alerts were posted on the Normal school's website starting at 3:25 p.m. on Tuesday. They warned those on campus not to approach a person with a residence tower. About 20 minutes later, an alert said that all residence halls and dining centers were restricted only to current residents.
Another alert issues around 4:25 p.m. said police had a suspect in custody and the "emergency situation has ended." Restrictions were lifted.
An ISU spokesman tells The Bloomington Pantagraph that the suspect is from Chicago and allegedly accosted a female student he was visiting. Spokesman Jay Groves says the woman told a friend, who called ISU police.
