Susanne and Katie Anderson, who are fourth generation candy makers from Anderson’s Candy Shop headquartered in Richmond, raised $2,800 for Family Health Partnership Clinic by selling chocolate over the holiday season.

The “The Give Back Box” fundraiser was an idea they came up with to honor their mother and support the clinic and its mission. Their mother died of breast cancer in 2011 when she let her health condition worsen because she had no health insurance and did not realize she could have received help from Family Health Partnership Clinic.

The Anderson sisters teamed up with Family Health Partnership Clinic for the fundraiser and sold more than 750 boxes during the holiday season.

“This was an incredible project,” Katie said. “Our whole staff worked long hours to fill the orders for those who wanted to support this great cause.”  .

Susanne and Katie felt a strong need to let others know that the clinic, which provides primary health care to those with no health insurance, is there for people in McHenry County, something they wished their mother had known about when she needed care.

“Through their fundraiser they not only raised money for the clinic, they also raised awareness, something that is dear to their hearts as well as ours,” said Cathy Patenaude, FHPC development coordinator.
