Forensics team to host bowling fundraiser after tournament win

CRYSTAL LAKE – The McHenry County College forensics team captured three first-place awards and one fifth-place at the Frank-Ly Speaking College of DuPage Forensics Tournament on Jan. 19.

The team also placed fourth in team sweepstakes.

Bob Gibbons of Crystal Lake took top honors in Speech to Entertain for his experiences as a young adult diagnosed with a brain tumor.

Devin Lasker of Cary and Greg Waldyn of McHenry won first for their Dramatic Duo Interpretation of  “The King’s Speech.”

Waldyn also won first place for Prose Interpretation of the short story, “Sleepwalk with Me,” and Lasker took fifth in Dramatic Interpretation of a short play by MCC alumna Lauryn Lugo, “After Juliet.”

The MCC Forensics Team will host a bowlingfundraiser at 2:30 p.m. Feb. 22 at Brunswick Zone, 1611 S. Randall Road in Algonquin. Bowling opens at 2:30 p.m. for MCC students and at 5:30 p.m. for the public.

The cost is $15 for two hours of bowling, including shoes, pizza and soft drinks. Proceeds will go toward the team’s trip to national competition in the spring.

The public is invited to the watch a preview of the national competition performances when the team presents a spring showcase in MCC’s Black Box Theatre, Room D167.

It will be at 2:30 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. April 9 and 11 and at 7:30 p.m. April 10.
