County historical society to host appraisal event

UNION – The McHenry County Historical Society will host an antique appraisal event from 1 to 4 p.m. Saturday at the museum, 6422 Main St., Union.

Antiques will be appraised by the following professionals:

• Barb Peterson, Prairie Grove – Dolls: Peterson owns the Attic Window & Heirloom Doll Hospital in Walworth, Wis., and is a certified “doll doctor.” She also is a judge on the national level for the United Federation of Doll Clubs. Peterson said although the doll resale market has suffered in recent years, rare character dolls and dolls from the 1950s can be worth thousands of dollars.

• Lynne Eltrevoog, Union – China and glass: Eltrevoog has been a collector for more than 45 years and a dealer for 22 years. She has managed On The Square Antique Mall in Walworth for 15 years and been a volunteer at the McHenry County Historical Society for more than 20 years.

• David Krieg, Harvard – Toys: Krieg has been running auctions and appraising toys for more than 25 years.

• Bret Dougherty, Studio 2015 Jewelry, Woodstock – Jewelry: Tom Dougherty began designing and making jewelry 41 years ago for family and friends. The former teacher opened his first store in 1985, an 1,800-square-foot storefront on the Woodstock Square. Studio 2015 Jewelry moved to its current 6,500-square-foot studio at 11701 Catalpa Lane in 2007.

Dougherty, his wife, April, and their son, Bret, along with a staff of about 30, continue to innovate. Among their favorite things to do is design jewelry.
