Police end search for Chicago carjacking suspect

SCHAUMBURG, Ill. (AP) — Police in the Chicago suburb of Schaumburg have called off a manhunt for a carjacking suspect because they believe the man is no longer in the area, but they continue to investigate.

A Rockford woman reported that she was carjacked overnight on Chicago's Near North Side and then driven to the northwest suburb.

Schaumburg Police Sgt. John Nebl says the woman used an in-vehicle emergency alert system to contact authorities. The suspect fled on foot.

Authorities say the woman was hit on the head but was not hospitalized.

Police on foot were using K-9 units in the search for the man Friday morning but called off the manhunt after a few hours.

Nebl says police believe the man might have left the area before officers arrived.
