Stands to benefit

To the Editor:

I, Annette Brefeld-Mavec, family child care provider, director at Cuddly Lamb Child Care, and citizen concerned for the well-being of McHenry, urges City Council approval of Thornton’s gas station at Richmond Road (Route 31) and Pearl Street.

Supervision of nearby Montini grade school children at that intersection is taking place by parents and teachers and will continue. Fuel tax revenue will fund improvements for the city. New jobs will give people a means to be self-sufficient and/or provide for their families.

A growing McHenry means local businesses will benefit with more people supporting them. When cigarette, alcohol and lottery ticket sales are perceived by some to be a threat to children’s well-being, it is the parents’ and teachers’ jobs to help children learn to make healthy lifestyle choices. A quality business is part of a thriving city. McHenry stands to benefit by having Thornton’s, a desirable, family-owned business.

If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact me at 815 459-8317.

Thank you for your attention to this matter.
