Chickens, ducks die in Marengo barn fire

MARENGO – Several chickens and ducks died during a barn fire in Marengo on Sunday morning, according to the Marengo Fire Protection District.

Crews were called to the 18400 block of Route 176 at around 10:20 a.m. for a report of a barn fire, authorities said. Firefighters arrived to find the barn fully engulfed in flames.

The fire was under control after more than three-and-a-half hours.

One chicken was saved by a firefighter, fire officials said.

There were no other injuries reported.

Damaged to the barn was estimated at more than $200,000.

The fire appears to be electrical in nature, and the investigation is ongoing.

Crews from several area departments assisted with the blaze.
