Cubs' Garza expected to be sidelined 1 week

Text Size: AaAaAaAaAa

MESA, Ariz. – Cubs general manager Jed Hoyer said today that pitcher Matt Garza will be sidelined for a week.

Garza underwent an MRI yesterday and the results confirmed he suffered a mild strained lat near his oblique. Garza will be shut down for about a week until he is pain free before throwing. Hoyer said the injury will push back his first Cactus League start to an undetermined date, and they do not know what impact the strain will have on Garza being ready for the start of the season.
