Sheriff finds unprocessed rape kits in Robbins

ROBBINS, Ill. (AP) — The Cook County Sheriff's Office says it has found dozens of unprocessed sexual assault kits in the evidence room at the Robbins Police Department in south suburban Chicago.

Cook County Sheriff Tom Dart's office said in a news release Tuesday that sheriff's police discovered the 51 kits. They ranged from 1986 to 2011 and were never submitted for analysis. The sheriff's office says it is working to have the kits submitted.

Dart plans a Tuesday evening town hall meeting with Robbins Mayor Irene Brodie. Dart's office says in a statement that he and the mayor will host the meeting to talk about the future of the village and "what is being done to make it a safer and stronger community."
