Source in SAD story duped us

I want to call our online readers' attention to a story that we published on this site Friday about seasonal affective disorder. During the winter months, many folks in northern Illinois suffer from the mood disorder, which can lead to depression.

On Monday, we learned that one of the primary sources in that Friday story wasn't telling us the truth. Essentially, we were duped into believing his story that he suffered from SAD, when he now says he did not. He told us Monday that he was playing a "joke" on us and "it kind of went too far."

Well, the joke is on us. We should have verified his story with someone else, his doctor or a family member. We did not, so we are left to clarify the story.

You can read our Note to Readers clarifying the record on top of the original story itself here.
