WOODSTOCK – Charges related to accusations that a Spring Grove woman stole from her elderly mother have been dropped, although she pleaded guilty Wednesday to a misdemeanor count of theft.
Eydie Abernathy, 44, was given credit for 120 days served in the McHenry County Jail and sentenced to an additional 60 days. However, the remainder was stayed, meaning that she will not have to serve the time if she successfully completes the terms of her two years of probation.
Abernathy also was ordered to pay $8,444 in restitution.
Police had accused Abernathy of stealing from her then-78-year-old mother by opening lines of credit in her mother's name, but those counts were dismissed. Abernathy instead pleaded guilty to using another person's debit card.
She originally faced several felony charges, including identity theft, which were dropped as part of the plea deal accepted by Judge Sharon Prather.
