Fire shuts down suburban polling place
CHICAGO HEIGHTS, Ill. (AP) — Election officials say a suburban Chicago polling place has closed because of a nearby fire.
Cook County Clerk David Orr says a polling place in Chicago Heights was closed after a fire broke out at 3 p.m. at an apartment building across the street. Fire officials have blocked several streets around the polling place.
Residents and poll workers remain at the polling site. Orr says the public will be notified when the site reopens or if election materials are moved to another nearby location.
