Schultz: Low voter turnout for today's primary

WOODSTOCK – It wasn't just snow that stopped voters from heading to the polls for Tuesday's primary election, the McHenry County Clerk said – there simply wasn't enough excitement generated by a primary election featuring only four township governments.

"I'll be surprised if we go over 10 percent for entire four townships," McHenry County Clerk Katherine Schultz said, but added there could be higher turnouts in some areas.

Over in Dorr Township, where voters in 14 precincts were choosing four trustees from five candidates, one polling place only saw eight voters all day, Schultz said.

"I think it's because it's a primary election, and you had to pull a Republican ballot – some people are uncomfortable doing that," she said.
