Right of the people

Published: Friday, March 1, 2013 5:30 a.m. CDT

To the Editor:

This is in response to Don Mast’s letter of Feb. 23. The 2nd Amendment says: “A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.”

The right of the people ... shall not be infringed. The right of the people to bear arms has been confirmed. See District of Columbia vs. Heller and McDonald vs. Chicago, and the right of the people to own the type of firearms in common use of the day has been confirmed by Miller vs. the U.S.

A gun, its magazines, and accessories are just tools. It is the violence in our society and mental health issues that are the problem. Is it funny how when one of these tragedies happen, all the gun-control types want to take the guns away from those who did not do anything?
