My Sister’s Dress back this weekend

Published: Wednesday, March 6, 2013 5:30 a.m. CDT

CRYSTAL LAKE – A popular dress sale aimed to make prom dresses affordable for all returns this weekend.

The sixth annual My Sister’s Dress sale will be from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday at McHenry County College, 8900 Route 14. Proceeds from the sale benefit Big Brothers Big Sisters of McHenry County.

“There are lots of really nice dresses,” event organizer Emily Smith said. “Some of them even come with tags on. It’s a great opportunity to get a really good buy.”

Dresses cost $25 and accessories are sold for $5. In addition, there will be some prom-themed raffle prizes, such as limo rides or gift certificates for hairstyles or flowers offered at the sale.

Donations of gently worn dresses, jewelry, purses and other accessories still can be dropped off through Friday. Donation sites are available locally at American Community Bank, MCC’s Student Life office, the Star 105.5 radio station, the BBBS office in McHenry, and Taylor Stevens Salon and Spa in Lake in the Hills.

Last year, there were about 200 dresses sold and about $4,000 raised for BBBS. Still, there were 700 donated dresses. The unsold garments are donated to Sparrow’s Nest and sold at McHenry County Home of the Sparrow locations.
