CRYSTAL LAKE – In celebration of Women’s History Month, Marianne Markowitz, regional administrator of the U.S. Small Business Administration, will tour Direct Steel in Crystal Lake Thursday.

A thriving woman-owned construction firm, Direct Steel benefited from SBA’s counseling and technical assistance programs which enabled the company’s owner and president Rosemary Swierk to grow and create jobs.

As a contractor, Direct Steel works in cooperation with architects, designers and end users in order to integrate the optimal technology from leading suppliers into well-designed new buildings, additions, repairs and remodeling.

Markowitz will recognize Swierk and her accomplishments as a woman-owned business in a male-dominated industry. Markowitz also will highlight the Obama administration’s efforts to help women-owned small businesses get the resources they need to grow and create an economy built to last.

Direct Steel, 3321 S. Route 31, Crystal Lake, attributes its growth to a solid business plan and administrative processes, creative and cost-effective marketing, and engaging and team-oriented management. The company has constructed projects for a variety of government entities including the Air Force, Veterans Administration and the Army Corps of Engineers.
