Newly appointed southwestern Illinois judge dies

BELLEVILLE, Ill. (AP) — A former longtime southwestern Illinois prosecutor has died a little more than a week after being sworn in as a judge.

St. Clair County Chief Circuit Judge John Baricevic says 49-year-old Joe Christ died Sunday of natural causes during a duck-hunting trip.

The county's coroner's office says Christ died outside of its jurisdiction, and that an autopsy was planned.
