No injuries, damage reported from small Ill. quake

BENTON – Authorities say a small earthquake shook parts of southern Illinois.

The U.S. Geological Survey said the 2.7-magnitude temblor was shortly before 1 a.m. Monday east and northeast of Benton. The closest town appears to be tiny 50-resident Macedonia in Franklin County.

That county's sheriff department said the earthquake doesn't appear to have caused any injuries or significant damage.
