Fundraising on track for SG July 4 festivities

SPRING GROVE – The Fourth of July Committee is more than a third of the way to its goal.

A raffle fundraiser generated about $7,700 with part of that going toward expenses and brought the first-place winner about the same, according to the Spring Grove village newsletter.

The event, which draws about 2,000 people, was nearly canceled last year because of a dearth of funds and volunteers.

The committee, an independent nonprofit led by Village Trustee Pat Mazzanti, needs to raise about $20,000 to put on the annual fireworks display.

Its usual efforts, including getting donations from the village and area businesses, typically raise about $14,000 to $15,000, Mazzanti said.

“We’re well on our way,” he said. “We’re on pace of where we need to be for a successful year.”

Those interested in volunteering can contact Mazzanti at 815-353-2268.
