To the Editor:
I own a retail strip center in Cary. I and others have suffered vacancies.
The village of Cary creates delays and adds additional costs for new businesses. Athletico, which finally will open this month, is a recent example. Cary is just about the only community that required them to obtain a conditional-use permit.
Some members of the Cary Board of Trustees and one of the village president candidates recently said they won’t allow office uses in retail districts under any circumstances. Virtually all other towns routinely allow this type of use. This is certainly not business friendly, which may explain why Cary has so many vacancies.
Many commercial brokers avoid Cary for reasons such as this. Bruce Kaplan understands private property rights and is business friendly. I strongly recommend you vote him as your next village president.
