Marlowe students to perform ‘Annie Jr.’

LAKE IN THE HILLS – Marlowe Middle School will perform the Broadway classic “Annie Jr.” at 7 p.m. Friday and at 3 and 7 p.m. Saturday in the Performing Arts Center at Huntley High School,13719 Harmony Road, Huntley.

Taking place in the 1930s in New York City, “Annie Jr.” tells the story of a little orphan named Annie who, unlike the other children at Miss Hannigan’s orphanage, believes that her parents are still alive and will one day return to claim her.

So when billionaire Oliver Warbucks offers to adopt her, she asks the powerful man to help find her real mom and dad instead, and he agrees. Warbucks’ huge reward for Annie’s parents attracts several con artists, including Rooster, Lily and the wicked Miss Hannigan, who hatch a plot to kidnap Annie and take the $50,000 reward.

“Annie Jr.” is based on the Harold Gray comic strip “Little Orphan Annie” and the book by Thomas Meehan, and features music by Charles Strouse and lyrics by Martin Charnin.

The performance will be directed by Marlowe Middle School teacher Jennifer Lindsay.

Tickets are $5 and can be bought at the door.
