Boy critically injured in Barrington Metra accident

Metra trains arriving from Chicago experienced significant delays Friday evening after an 11-year-old Barrington child was struck by a train.

Barrington Police and firefighters responded to the scene at 6:09 p.m. at Route 59 north of Lake Cook Road when the boy was struck by a southeast bound commuter train. Police officers and a witness administered first aid until paramedics arrived. He was transported to Lutheran General Hospital.

Metra trains were stopped in both directions causing delays of more than an hour on the Northwest line between Chicago and Harvard.
