Library News and Special Events
Culver’s Night
Tuesday, April 9 from 4-8 pm
Join us as the Friends Foundation hosts a Culver’s Fundraising Night. No form is required! Visit Culver’s of Huntley on Rt. 47 between 4-8 p.m., dine-in or drive-thru, and a percentage of the proceeds will go to the Friends Foundation. Money raised by the Friends Foundation purchases ebooks, and pays for programs and many services at the library. Mark your calendar and join the fun.
National Volunteer Week - April 21-27, 2013
Over 80 volunteers worked 5,056 hours in the last fiscal year, amounting to over $110,000 in savings for library! Volunteers are an integral part of the library’s team, helping with office work, shelving items, reading programs, and fundraising. In 2012 the Friends Foundation’s 250 members raised over $50,000 for the library. Over the last year, library volunteers saved taxpayers $160,000. The next time you visit the library and see someone wearing a green “Volunteer” badge, be sure to thank them for all they do.
Huntley Green & Clean Day, April 27
The Friends are joining the Village of Huntley and honoring Earth Day and Arbor Day on April 27. Friends will be assisting with recycling and anyone that visits will receive a reusable Friends Foundation bag from 9 a.m. - Noon.
The Village of Huntley will be sponsoring electronics recycling, garbage drop off, document shredding and prescription medication disposal. For complete details about Green & Clean Day, visit the Village of Huntley website at http://www.huntley.il.us/.
Discover Your Library - National Library Week is April 14 - 20

World Book Night - Tuesday, April 23
The Huntley Library has received a grant to participate in this once-a-year event. Twenty copies of Moneyball: The Art of Winning an Unfair Game will be given away to residents for World Book Night. A film based on the book starring Brad Pitt was released in 2011.

Show your money smarts and stop by the Information Desk after you check out to calculate how much money you saved by using the library. You’ll earn virtual book bucks, which you can use to “buy” books and more from our prize cart. For grades 6-12.
Take Charge Illinois : The Basics of Budgeting

Tom Lydon, Consumer Affairs Division of the Illinois State Comptroller’s Office, will present a program on basic budgeting. Learn how to prepare a monthly budget, comparison shop, cut expenses and maintain a budget. Registration required.

The Fray: Stitchery Club
Tuesday, April 30 • 6 - 7:30 p.m.
Drop in and join the Fray. This stitchery club is for experienced and novice alike. Whether you knit, crochet, cross-stitch, or work another needle craft, come to learn and share. Bring your own supplies and projects. This group meets the last Tuesday of each month from 6-7:30 p.m. For ages 10 & up.

Celebrate National Poetry Month by entering our Iron Poet competition.
