Two candidates – an incumbent and a citizen who beat city hall – are competing for village president in Lakemoor.
Ryan “Todd” Weihofen, 37, is the vice president of operations for a swimming pool company, and is completing his first term as village president.
Tina Asmus, 40, is a homemaker and former restaurant manager who is challenging Weihofen. Asmus also successfully challenged the village over its zoning ordinances when she fought it in court over nuisance violation tickets for the toilet and sink planters she had placed in her yard.
Asmus said she is passionate about preserving Lakemoor’s small-town quality of life and restoring Lilly Lake as a destination. She also said she is concerned about a lack of police presence in town and extensive turnover in the chief’s position
Weihofen has helped professionalize Lakemoor, which had many difficulties during a previous administration. He started a police and fire commission and moved the department from a trailer to a more suitable department building.
He also hopes to continue expanding offerings for park programs and Lakemoor’s business base, particularly in the Routes 120 and 12 corridor, and considers attracting a Walgreens to town as one of Lakemoor’s big successes over the past few years.
Lakemoor has been moving in the right direction under Weihofen’s leadership, and he has a good relationship with the Village Board.
We endorse Weihofen.
