Mr. and Mrs. McConnell

WONDER LAKE – Douglas and Carol McConnell of Wonder Lake will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary with an open house for family and friends July 6 at their lake home hosted by their children.

Carol Sue Griess and Douglas Eugene McConnell were married Feb. 22, 1963, in Sacramento, Calif. They first lived in Orangevale, Calif., after their marriage.

He was a national accounts sales manager for Caterpillar Inc. He retired June 1, 2005. He enjoys barbershop singing with the Arlingtones men’s a cappella chorus and Chordmasters quartet, is active with the International Aerobatics Club division of the Experimental Aircraft Association, is heavily involved with high school reunions as president of the Class of 1957 in Ellensburg, Wash., and active with classmates from the Class of 1961 United States Air Force Academy.

Carol was a preschool special education teacher with the Park Forest school system until her retirement June 1, 2006. She is active with the Iowa Chapter of the Philanthropic Educational Organization, Crystal Lake, and the Illinois Retired Teachers Association, McHenry Chapter. She also enjoys local luncheon and book clubs.

They have a son, Keith (Ingrid Friberg) McConnell of Houston, and a daughter, Tricia McConnell Eichler of Butler, Pa. They also have five grandchildren.
