Tax return evidence presented at Beavers trial

CHICAGO (AP) — Prosecutors are continuing to present evidence against a Cook County commissioner accused of diverting campaign money for gambling and personal use, then not reporting it as income.

Government attorneys Monday showed jurors federal tax returns from 2006 through 2008 where William Beavers didn't report any campaign money as income.

But in a bid to show the 78-year-old Chicago Democrat understood he needed to report such money, prosecutors also entered his 2005 returns.
