To the Editor:

It was surprising to read that the McHenry County Conservation District Board has decided to drop the Trail of History event. Why in the world would a board drop its most popular, unique, premier event? To save $18,000? To not have to pull 60 employees from their other duties for a few days?

I’m sure there are other places to cover this outlay of cash and manpower. Why not charge $1 more for the entry? Perhaps the board could postpone replacing one truck for a year. Why not ask for more volunteers? Surely there are some community service organizations ready to supply those volunteers.
