Ill. man accused of killing sister is unfit for trial

JOLIET – A northern Illinois man accused of bludgeoning his sister to death in the Chicago suburb of Naperville has been declared mentally unfit to stand trial.

Fifty-three-year-old Mark Lewis of Lakemoor is charged with first-degree murder in the 2011 slaying.

According to court records, his 59-year-old sister, Cathleen Lewis, was struck dozens of times in the head with a hammer or another blunt object.

As a result of Friday’s ruling, Mark Lewis will be sent to the Illinois Department of Human Services for treatment at a secure facility.

Authorities said he has a history of schizophrenia.
