SPRINGFIELD – A central Illinois man has been sentenced to more than eight years in prison for a drunken driving crash that killed his 7-year-old daughter.

Paul Carlson of Petersburg tearfully told a Springfield court that he loved his daughter, Kealy Carlson, “more than words can express.”

In the 2011 crash, the 28-year-old’s Jeep went down an embankment and into a ditch. He was found guilty of aggravated DUI.

The (Springfield) State Journal-Register reported that Friday’s sentence included two years of mandatory supervised release.
