Drugs not factor in crash that killed 4 Ill. teens

WILMINGTON – Test results show drugs and alcohol were not factors in the crash that killed four northern Illinois teens earlier this month.

The Wilmington High School students died March 11 when their vehicle skidded off a rural road, smashed through a guard rail on a bridge and landed upside down in a creek.

Autopsies performed the next day showed all four drowned.

Will County Coroner Patrick O'Neil said toxicology results came back negative Monday for drugs or alcohol.

The (Joliet) Herald-News reported that O'Neil has ruled the deaths accidental drownings.

Authorities have said the driver likely lost control after hitting a patch of water or ice.
