LAKE IN THE HILLS – Between March 14 and 17, the Lake in the Hills Police Department conducted extra enforcement for the St. Patrick’s Day holiday.

During the effort, Lake in the Hills police conducted 40 hours of additional enforcement. Police stopped 54 motorists for violations of the Illinois vehicle code.

Two drivers were arrested in connection with driving under the influence, one driver was wanted on a warrant and 47 citations were issued.

Lake in the Hills police will conduct their next enforcement campaign between May 10 and 27 for the Memorial Day holiday.

The funding for the additional enforcement came in part from a grant from the Illinois Department of Transportation. Statistics from the National Highway Traffic Safety show that more than 700 people were killed nationwide in crashes involving drunken drivers during the St. Patrick’s Day holiday from 2006 to 2010. There were 129 lives lost in 2010 alone.
