2 Illinois teens rescued from icy Lake Zurich

LAKE ZURICH — Firefighters have rescued two northern Illinois teenagers who fell through the ice on Lake Zurich.

Fire Chief David Wheelock says that two other, younger children had fallen into the water as well, but were able because of their lighter weight to make it back to shore over the thin ice.

The two teens were found holding onto an ice shelf about 100 yards from shore.

Firefighters in cold-water rescue suits were able to get them to safety about half an hour after an emergency call was placed on Wednesday afternoon.

Wheelock says they showed signs of hypothermia but were in stable condition.

Authorities are warning that the ice is unsafe to walk on this time of year and is only about an inch thick or less.
