Illinois homicide suspect spotted in SW Missouri

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. (AP) — Police in the southwest Missouri are asking residents to be on the lookout for a suspect in an Illinois homicide.

Springfield authorities say they believe 41-year-old Thomas O'Dell has stolen two vehicles in the area. Residents are warned not to approach him because he is considered armed and dangerous.

O'Dell is a suspect in the March 18 shooting death of Benjamin Newton at a pub in Mattoon, Ill.

Authorities believe O'Dell first stole a car in Illinois. He was spotted in Mansfield Wednesday night when he ditched the stolen car and took a red Chevy Cavalier. That vehicle was seen later Wednesday at a Springfield theater, where authorities believe O'Dell stole a white 2012 Ford F-250 truck. The license plate of the stolen truck is 44B-0G4.
