RINGWOOD – Do you have an interest in birdwatching but are unable to join the McHenry County Conservation District’s long bird hikes?

The district has a solution – birding by balcony. It invites the public to the Lost Valley Visitor Center in Glacial Park, at Route 31 and Harts Road, Ringwood, for a pair of programs.

Participants can look out the second-floor windows or off the balcony at vast acres of wetlands for waterfowl from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. April 9 or peek directly into the branches of the nearby oak trees at In the Oaks from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. May 19.

Binoculars and field guides are available for those who do not have their own. Participants should dress for the weather if they plan to go outside on the balcony.

The programs are free for county residents and cost $2 for nonresidents. They are for those 14 and older.

Registration may be done online, by phone at 815-479-5779, or by mail or walk-in at Prairieview Education Center, 2112 Behan Road in Crystal Lake.
