A 16-year-old girl from Union suffered a minor leg injury after she drove off the road and struck a tree near the intersection of Pleasant Valley Road and Swanson Road south of Woodstock, the McHenry County Sheriff's Office said.

The girl was going west at 4:26 p.m. Saturday on Pleasant Valley in a 1999 Mitsubishi when she drove onto the shoulder of the road on the right side for an unknown reason. She then over-corrected, crossed the oncoming lane and struck a tree, knocking it down, said Sgt. Dan Patenaude.

She was charged with improper lane usage.

Traffic in the area was tied up for 30 to 45 minutes, Patenaude said.

The girl was taken to Centegra Hospital – Woodstock.
