Sox ready to open season against Royals

CHICAGO – The White Sox's season finally gets underway today and they'll welcome a familiar opponent to U.S. Cellular Field.

Left-hander Chris Sale makes his first Opening Day start while the Kansas City Royals send right-hander James Shields to the mound. Sale is the fifth-youngest Opening Day starter in Sox history. The Sox are 58-54 all-time on Opening Day.

In a slight switch from last season, manager Robin Ventura changed the order in the middle of the Sox lineup. Alex Rios is batting third followed by Adam Dunn and Paul Konerko.

Starting pitcher John Danks (shoulder) will leave for Arizona tomorrow and throw Thursday as he continues rehabbing from shoulder surgery, part of his extended spring training stint.
