Rauner raises $1.3M for potential 2014 run

CHICAGO (AP) — A Republican venture capitalist weighing a run for Illinois governor has raised $1.3 million in the last month.

Bruce Rauner announced in March that he'd form an exploratory committee to consider a 2014 bid for governor. He also began a statewide listening tour to gauge interest from Illinois residents.

In a Tuesday news release Rauner's committee announced that it raised $1.3 million since its March 5 inception. The money includes a $249,000 contribution from Rauner.

Rauner's statewide tour has included 20 stops so far. He says the support exceeds his expectations.

Rauner says Illinois needs a political outsider to take on the "failed status quo" in Springfield. This week he'll stop in Rockford, Rosemont and Monroe County.

Other potential GOP candidates include Congressman Aaron Schock and Illinois Treasurer Dan Rutherford.
