Fundraiser to aid multiple sclerosis research

Published: Friday, April 5, 2013 5:30 a.m. CDT

CRYSTAL LAKE – A fundraiser today at Buffalo Wings and Rings in Crystal Lake will focus on multiple sclerosis research efforts.

Fifteen percent of all sales throughout the day will go to Amazing Grace, a local team participating in the upcoming Walk MS in McHenry County. The group – composed of the Tole family and their friends – then will donate the money to the National MS Society.

“We are raising money for a cure,” said Natalie Tole, whose mother and brother suffer from the chronic neurological disorder. “Hopefully, with more and more research, if it hits any other family members or friends, it won’t change their lives as drastically as it has ours.”

The Crystal Lake family has taken part in the annual walk for the past 12 years, raising more than $30,000 for multiple sclerosis research. The team hosts other fundraisers leading up to the event, which is scheduled for May 5 in Lake in the Hills, and also walks door-to-door fielding donations.

Having daughters who either attended or graduated from Crystal Lake South High School, the family has fielded assistance from staff and students to help raise awareness of the disease, Tole said. That will include a charity run April 14 at the school with all proceeds being donated to the MS Society.

“We are really trying to get the word out to people to come out and support the MS Society,” Tole said. “The disease hits a lot of people.”

To donate today at Buffalo Wings and Rings, 1529 Carlemont Drive, customers must tell their servers they would like to participate in the fundraiser.
