VERNON HILLS — A man is fair condition after being shot by suburban Chicago officers when he pulled out a handgun in the lobby of the Vernon Hills Police Department.
Authorities say the man, whose name wasn't released, was shot at least once early Wednesday.
He arrived at the Vernon Hills Police Department shortly after midnight, saying he wanted to file an accident report. Investigators say that's when he pulled out a handgun and pointed it at an officer, who then opened fire on the man.
Officials say the man's injuries aren't considered life threatening.
A spokeswoman for the department in Chicago's northern suburbs says authorities aren't sure what prompted the man to pull out his weapon.
The shooting is being investigated.
