Peavy needs to reverse trend vs. Royals

CHICAGO – White Sox pitcher Jake Peavy makes his first start of the season today against a Royals team he has struggled to beat.

Peavy is 0-6 with a 5.56 ERA in his last seven starts against Kansas City. With Peavy on the mound, the Sox are trying to start the season 2-0 for the third time in nine seasons (also in 2005 and 2012).

With his next hit, which would be his first of the season, Paul Konerko will tie Frank Thomas for third most in White Sox history with 2,136. Designated hitter Adam Dunn and center fielder Alejandro De Aza are also looking for their first hits of the season.

The Royals have been a pain for the Sox lately. Since 2011, the Sox are only 14-23 against Kansas City. Their 12 losses to the Royals in 2012 were the most in a single season.

Right-hander Ervin Santana makes his first start for Royals after being traded from the Angels during the offseason.
