PALOS HEIGHTS – A former Crystal Lake teacher was arrested for allegedly having a sexual relationship with an underage student while he was employed at a Palos Heights Christian high school.

Kenneth Martin, who went by Kenneth Haug and then Kenneth Whitney when he worked at South High School, was charged Monday with aggravated criminal sexual abuse.

Two former students told police that in 2009 when they were students at Chicago Christian High School, they engaged in an inappropriate relationship with their teacher. Martin, 34, took the surname Whitney during the alleged 2009 incident.

Only one of the victims, a 16-year-old girl, is cooperating with the investigation, but police say they have evidence of another relationship between Martin and a then-17-year-old female, Palos Heights Detective Sgt. Tim Holder said.

Martin was South's choir director in the 2003-04 and 2004-05 school years, District 155 spokesman Jeff Puma confirmed.

There were no reports or evidence of inappropriate relationships with students at South, Puma said.

Martin, of the 1500 block of W. 83rd Place, Chicago, has bond set at $100,000 of which he must post 10 percent to be released.

He is no longer employed at the Palos Heights high school
