To the Editor:
Our trustees seem to think only they have carte-blanche authority to spend $42 million on a scheme that could eventually put county taxpayers in debt for many years.
McHenry County College's Health and Wellness Center is ill conceived, but a contracted consultant has collected thousands of dollars of our tax money – all blessed by this MCC board.
Remember the minor league baseball team and the 1,500-foot radio transmission tower? The taxpayers saw through those schemes. Too many of our trustees think they have a never-ending blank check. They don't unless we taxpayers let them. The taxpayers should decide by referendum.
MCC is a two-year institution and needs to do everything to keep credit-hour costs and other expenses low. Please vote for Wilbeck, Jenner and Walsh. Please remember those names when you vote April 9.
