Concerned taxpayer

To the Editor:

I was just reading the headline, “Mom gets treatment, not prison,” and as a taxpayer of McHenry County (we pay nearly $10,000 per year real estate taxes) since 1990, I was wondering how an illegal immigrant, Claudia Mejia, was hired and working at Valley Hi Nursing Home?

Now, we, the taxpayers in the county, are going to have pay for up to 30 years for Mejia to be institutionalized. How does Valley Hi Nursing Home justify hiring an illegal immigrant when they do background checks on every one who is hired?

Plus, wasn’t an immigration form I-9 employment Eligibility Verification filled out by Mejia?
